Olympians Representing USET Foundation Cheered by Millions in 119th Rose Parade

(USA) - "This will be the most people we will ever ride in front of," said Melanie Smith Taylor to Beezie Madden as they rode down Colorado Avenue in the 119th Rose Parade on New Year's Day in Pasadena, California, as part of the 12-member all-Olympian squad representing the United States Equestrian Team (USET) Foundation. Indeed, more than a million spectators lined the five-and-a-half mile route for the two-hour parade that featured floats, marching bands, and 300 horses, including for the first time in history, a squad representing the U.S. Equestrian Team.

Show Jumping Trials for 2008 Olympics to be Held During the CN Winter Equestrian Festival
(USA) − The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) has announced the location and dates for the USEF Show Jumping Trials for the 2008 Olympics. The trials will be held during the Zada Enterprises, LLC CSI***- W (February 27-March 2) and the CN Open CSIO***** (March 5-March 9) at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, FL. The trials will take place over five classes.

Official Countdown To 2010 World Equestrian Games Begins In Lexington
(Lexington, KY) - Two digital clocks in downtown Lexington will mark the number of days until the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. The clocks were unveiled by Lexington Mayor Jim Newberry and World Games 2010 Foundation CEO Jack Kelly, with 1000 days until the Games’ Opening Ceremonies. The Games will begin on September 25, 2010 and end on October 10, after 16 days of world championship equestrian competition at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Deslauriers of Bromont, QC, was victorious in the $100,000 American Gold Cup World Cup Qualifier in Moreland Hills, OH, as well as the $50,000 Grey Goose Vodka World Cup Qualifier in Southampton, NY, riding Paradigm, a 13-year-old Belgium Warmblood gelding. His tenth place finish in the $100,000 CN World Cup Grand Prix at the CSI-W Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, ON, netted him seven points to move him to the top of the leader board.

119th Rose Parade to Be Broadcast Live on Nine Networks in U.S.A. - USET Foundation Squad of Olympians are #47 out of 90 Parade Groups
(USA) - The 119th Rose Parade in Pasadena, California, on January 1, 2008, will be broadcast live by nine networks in the United States: ABC, NBC, HGTV, Tribune, Univision, Telemundo, Travel Channel, Discovery HD Theater, and Sky Link TV. Local California stations KWHY-22 and KTLA-5 will also provide live coverage. Internationally, the Rose Parade will be viewed by millions of people in more than 75 countries. Almost one million spectators line the five-and-a-half mile parade route.

BHS Wins Royal Safety Award

British Horse Society legend Elwyn Hartley Edwards dies, aged 80
(Great Britain) - Distinguished equestrian writer, journalist and British Horse columnist Elwyn Hartley Edwards has died, aged 80.
The BHS has paid tribute to Elwyn, who wrote more than 40 books about equestrianism, served on the BHS Council and as a regional chairman in North-West Wales, and wrote the famously feisty Last Word column in British Horse magazine.

(Wellington, FL, USA) - Eleven years ago this month in Wellington, McLain Ward lost the AGA Championships when he had one time fault and Margie Engle was the only clear round in the class. In this year's $100,000 National Horse Show Grand Prix FEI World Cup(TM) Qualifier, that situation was exactly reversed. On his new phenom Phillipa, Ward was the only clear round to win the class today. Engle and Hidden Creek's Quervo Gold finished second with one time fault, while Keean White (CAN) and Vienna Rouge were third with two time faults.

Lizzy Chesson Promoted to USEF Director of Show Jumping High Performance Activities

Chesson, 30, is deeply rooted in international equestrian sports. In Memoriam: Ewen B. "Pip" Graham
(Canada) - Ewen B. “Pip” Graham, who lived in Calgary, AB, and Hornby Island, BC and was a a founder and leader of equestrian sport in Canada—particularly eventing, passed away recently of natural causes. Pip was born Oct 31, 1930 in Calcutta, India, where his father was in the tea trade, and his grandfather founded Dr. Graham’s Homes in Kalimpong, India. He was educated in England at Cambridge University where he received his Master’s Degree from Downing College and moved to Canada in 1957.
