(USA) - Cavalia: A Magical Encounter Between Horse and Man will make a long-awaited East Coast debut on Wednesday, September 7 in Boston, Massachusetts, when the grand scale show featuring 50 magnificent horses and 32 artists from one of the co-founders of Cirque du Soleil Debuts Wednesday, September 7, 2005.
The equestrian spectacle opens at Suffolk Downs, one mile from Logan International Airport. Witnessed by nearly 1 million spectators, Cavalia spent 2004 and early 2005 in the Western United States, touring to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego, Santa Monica, and most recently, Phoenix. Following a spring visit to Toronto, Cavalia began playing in Montreal, where record-breaking ticket sales have surpassed any stop to date. Cavalia will log its 450th performance to date on August 6, while still in its home town of Montreal, before moving on to Boston.

Praised by horse industry legends from Hilda Gurney to Buck Brannaman and Linda Tellington-Jones to Robert M. Miller, D.V.M., the show has been featured in EQUUS, Horse Illustrated, Cowboys & Indians, America’s Horse, Dressage Today, Arabian Horse Magazine, Arabian Horse World, radio’s The Horse Show with Rick Lamb, and in dozens of equine publications throughout the United States and Canada.
Created by Normand Latourelle, one of the founders of Quebec’s famed Cirque du Soleil, and directed by Érick Villeneuve, Cavalia is a grand-scale spectacle involving acrobatics, music, projected images and a stellar lineup of equestrians. Cavalia’s equine cast of 50 horses (half are stallions) includes Lusitanos, Quarter Horses, Paint Horses, Canadian horses, Percherons, Belgian, Spanish, and Arabians, plus a soon-to-debut Appaloosa colt.

Infused with live music and vocals, the show features acclaimed European “horse-whisperer” Frédéric Pignon and his wife, world-class rider Magali Delgado, who bring an approach to horses marked by kindness and respect. The show takes place under North America’s largest touring tent – a white, 26,264-sq. ft. big top rising some 100 feet high.
The New York Times called Cavalia "A celebration of the unique emotional and physical bonds between humans and the animals." The Los Angeles Times described it as "Blissful play, haunting score… striking aerial grace. The impression is one of intense bond between horses and man." Variety magazine called it "A magical, mythic experience!" and Sara Davidson of Oprah Magazine termed Cavalia "Breathtaking !" CNN’s Larry King said “The greatest show I have ever seen. Spectacular. Beautiful. Like being in a dream. I loved it!”
Normand Latourelle, president and artistic director of Cavalia, who is the visionary behind the show, is renowned for his adventurous, mammoth and innovative productions. After participating in the development of Cirque du Soleil, he was one of the company’s three owners from 1985 until 1990.
Cavalia is directed by Érick Villeneuve, who also designed the visual effects for the show. With an original score by Michel Cusson, Cavalia features set design by Marc Labelle, lighting by Alain Lortie, sound by Michel Therrien, choreography by Alain Gauthier and Brad Denys, and costumes by Mireille Vachon.
